Primary school

With an Outstanding Ofsted rating, The University of Cambridge Primary School is committed to exemplary teaching and learning for children, and in their approach aim to be creative, bold, free thinking and rigorous. The academic achievement of the children will be underpinned by a commitment to values and developing compassionate citizens of the future.

The University of Cambridge Primary School is a three-form entry school governed by a charitable trust, UTS Cambridge, and provides education for children aged 4 –11. It is a mixed-ability co-educational school with no specific religious character or particular faith.

Designed by award-winning Marks Barfield Architects, perhaps best known as the London Eye architect, the school received a prestigious RIBA award in 2017.

Storey's Field Centre

Storey’s Field Centre have been shortlisted for the 2018 RIBA Stirling Prize which recognises the very best buildings in the UK. The community centre and nursery is designed by architects MUMA and combines quality design and high sustainability credentials.

The RIBA Stirling Prize recognises the best buildings in the UK and Storey’s Field Centre is on the shortlist of six after winning a National RIBA Award and three RIBA Regional awards for outstanding design: a RIBA East Award, the Sustainability Award and the RIBA East Building of the Year Award. Storey’s Field Centre is a fantastic community facility with spaces for events; from film screenings and music recitals to weddings and dance classes.

The main hall can accommodate up to 180 people and this hall will suit a range of uses from formal concerts or lectures, through to dance classes or zumba classes, to Brownies or film clubs, fashion shows, weddings or fairs. Two other rooms have space for up to 20 and 50 people, both perfect for parties, exercise or craft classes and meetings.
A bright and vibrant children’s nursery is also located at Storey’s Field Centre.

Market square

The market square is an important focal point for any neighbourhood and at Eddington it has been designed to accommodate a range of events and provide a lively engaging environment.
Centrally located within Eddington, shops and social spaces around the square make it a natural meeting point for all to enjoy. The market square shops are yet to be announced but is envisaged to include appropriate and essential retailers to support life at Eddington. Sainsbury’s supermarket fronts onto the market square and the other smaller shops will be located around the market square. A health centre will be located on Eddington Avenue near the market square and is due to accommodate up to five GPs.
The 4* hotel will be located on Eddington Avenue opposite the Veteran Oak Apartments and is anticipated to open in 2021.

Getting around

Car-free walking routes, an extensive cycle network, and convenient public transport mean that at Eddington, everything necessary to support convenient, sustainable day-to-day living and working is close to hand.
Walking and cycling have been integrated into Eddington life from the earliest design stage with cycling lanes connecting easily and conveniently to the city in 10 minutes, whilst within Eddington, cycling and pedestrian-friendly routes, lead to sports fields, parks and play spaces.
The U-Bus runs regularly from Eddington via the city centre to Addenbrooke’s Hospital and Biomedical Campus, making getting about a breeze, and reducing the need for car travel.

Green spaces & parks

Parks, playing fields and happy hours outdoors are part of the landscape at Eddington, with space for every age.
Eddington has several sports pitches, including the area opposite Knights Park which also features a running track and a sports pavilion. Storey’s Field, a similar size to Parker’s Piece in Cambridge, offers green space for walks and games at Eddington’s centre.

The lakes and lagoons at Brook Leys, part of almost 60 acres of natural landscape along Eddington’s edge, offers extensive habitat for wildlife. Architecturally sculptured with water features and paths, Brook Leys filters and stores the rainwater harvested from across Eddington before it is pumped back to the homes where it is used for washing machines and for toilet flushing.

University housing

Eddington has been created to meet the University’s long term growth. Designed to be long-lasting, sustainable and ambitious, Eddington includes 1,500 homes for University staff and students which are available for qualifying University staff and students to rent.
In addition, 2,000 post-graduate student rooms will also be available, the first of which are already occupied by Girton College students.

Public art installations

At Eddington, integrated and dynamic public art has been designed in to respond to Eddington’s locations, past, present and future, as well as its growing new community.
One of the most eye catching installations at Eddington is the Fata Morgana Tea House, a two-part steel structure on the lake setting of Brooks Leys. The Fata Morgana Teahouse is a sculptural work by Winter & Hörbelt that invites people to experience the landscape through a mediated view that maximise vistas from points in the surrounding landscape and enhance people’s perceptions and interest in the landscape. Also by Winter & Hörbelt is the striking Pixelwall which beautifully reflects the surrounding landscape.


Eddington has already won numerous awards and Storey’s Field Centre was shortlisted for the prestigious RIBA Stirling Prize 2018.
